REP. WASSERMAN SCHULTZ STATEMENT ON THE START OF HURRICANE SEASON

Pembroke Pines, FL – U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) issued the following statement today in observance of the official start of Hurricane season on June 1:

“It has now been nearly 11 years since a major hurricane made landfall in Florida, and while our community has been fortunate, our luck won’t last forever. Taking early precautions through planning and preparation is of paramount importance to minimize damage and save lives.

“Each South Florida household and business should create a plan of action detailing where to go if there is a hurricane, especially for those who need special assistance. Planning in advance will ensure you, your family and loved ones are safe.

“South Florida residents are never safe from storms. We have seen the devastation of Hurricanes Andrew and Wilma, and while we can never prevent them, we must prepare for them in order to save lives.”
