DAVIE, FLA. – Citing her work to help create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, former Congressman Barney Frank today gave his wholehearted endorsement to Debbie Wasserman Schultz in her campaign for reelection to Congress. In 2010, Congressman Frank was the architect of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Congress passed this landmark measure to address abuses that led to the economic collapse of 2008. Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz played a critical role in the creation of the CFPB as part of that legislation.

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the one who has stood against powerful interests in the financial services industry. She voted for, and cosponsored language that became part of the final Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which created the CFPB,” said Congressman Frank. Her opponent may claim he was an advisor to congressional staff on Dodd-Frank and the CFPB. I can tell you – as the sponsor of the bill – I can’t remember him. Here’s what I know: Debbie was there for consumers. Now, I’m here to support her.”

Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz thanked Frank for his support and for underscoring her unwavering commitment to address the needs of hard-working families in FL-23.

“I am honored to have Barney’s support in this race. Barney Frank is a true friend and is among our nation’s greatest consumer champions,” Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz said. “I’m proud of the work we did to establish the CFPB and provide working people with a fighting chance.”
